You don’t need a full week or more to catch your breath. This itinerary is proof: six days, two of them spent traveling, four spent at the resort, and almost nothing on the schedule beyond the beach, the pool, and one afternoon in the water. We traveled over Easter weekend in April, left on a Thursday and came home on a Tuesday, and the resort was probably at half capacity so it was quiet the whole time. The weather was fantastic from start to finish.
If you’re deciding whether a short trip to Puerto Morelos, Mexico is worth it, this is what four resort days actually look like.

Day 1: Travel Day
We flew out Thursday and transferred straight to Dreams Jade Resort & Spa. This day is just travel and check-in, nothing more.
Day 1 Highlights
- Flight and transfer to Dreams Jade Resort and Spa. Ther resort is a short 30 min drive from Cancun International Airport.
- Check-in
Day 2: Pool and Beach
The first full day at the resort had no plan beyond the pool and the beach, plus our daily walk along the shore looking for seashells and sea life.
Day 2 Highlights
- Pool and beach day
- Beach walk

Day 3: Puerto Morelos Town
We walked to the town of Puerto Morelos straight from the resort, no car or shuttle needed, and spent the half a day exploring on foot. We did our usual beach walk as well.
Day 3 Highlights
- Walked the town of Puerto Morelos
- Beach walk

Day 4: Snorkeling the Reef
We booked an afternoon snorkeling tour to see the National Reef Park of Puerto Morelos
off the town of Puerto Morelos. The reef itself is part of a protected section of the Mesoamerican Reef, the second largest reef system in the world. It sits just 500 meters (about 0.3 miles) off the coast, so it’s close to shore and an easy, short boat ride out.
It was a fairly calm day, but there were still good rolling waves. Our son is a strong swimmer and he was still challenged by the ocean, and he relied on the tube the guide brings along to pull tired kids so they don’t have to swim the whole time. If your kid isn’t a solid swimmer or who is comfortable in the water, I wouldn’t recommend this tour below a certain age or skill level. Our kid was 9 at the time and he absolutely loved this adventure. The tour guide who led us was awesome with him and spent the entire time with him pulling him along with the group.
Two quick notes to mention.
For Gear: You can bring your own mask, snorkel and fins or use the tour operator’s gear.
Booking this: you can book a snorkeling tour directly through the resort, or walk into town and book with one of the tour operators in Puerto Morelos. Booking through the resort is more convenient since they handle the pickup at the resort and timing for you. Booking in town can be cheaper, but you’ll want to compare the different operators and what is included in their tour first, before you decide which route to take. We booked from an operator in town and would highly recommend it.
Since we were there over Easter, the resort decorated the hotel for the day and ran activities for the kids, including an Easter egg hunt and a meet-and-greet with the Easter bunny.
We still got our beach walk in that day too.
Day 4 Highlights
- Morning Easter egg hunt and Easter bunny meet-and-greet
- Afternoon reef snorkeling tour (time allotted: 3-4 hours)
- Beach walk

Day 5: Watch the Dolphins
There’s a dolphin facility, Delphinus Puerto Morelos, next door to Dreams Jade Resort & Spa, and we could wander over along the beach and watch the dolphins. You can book a time to swim with the dolphins at Delphinus Puerto Morelos. We chose just to watch them. The rest of the day was hanging out at the resort spending time at the pool and on the beach.
Day 5 Highlights
- Dolphin watching
- Pool and beach day
- Beach walk

Day 6: Travel Home
We checked out and headed home on Tuesday, closing out five nights at the resort.
Day 6 Highlights
- Check-out and transfer home
Why This Dreams Jade Resort Itinerary Works for a Quick Recharge
You don’t need a full week or more to feel like you actually got away. A long weekend getaway, or a short trip like this one, can do the same job if it’s built the right way.
One Booked Activity Was Enough
Snorkeling was the only thing we actually planned as a must-do. We didn’t need to book ahead. There were lots of tour groups in town to book with. The dolphins, the town walk, and the beach cost nothing extra and needed no planning at all.
The Same Walk Every Day Was the Point
We walked the beach and looked for shells every single day of the trip. It didn’t get old. It’s what made the trip feel like rest instead of a checklist.
The Resort’s Location Does Some of the Work
A reef offshore, Delphinus Puerto Morelos next door, and a walkable town a short trip away meant we didn’t have to leave the resort area to fill our days.
It Works With or Without Kids
Just be intentional about where you book on the resort. The adults-only pool section is a solid perk for couples, but it’s a long walk from the family pool if you’re traveling with kids.
Frequently Asked Questions About Puerto Morelos and Dreams Jade Resort
Is Dreams Jade Resort family-friendly, or is it adults-only? It’s a family resort with a separate adults-only pool section. If you’re traveling with kids, book a room near the family section. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the adult’s only section to the family pool and restaurants.
Is Puerto Morelos worth visiting? Yes. It’s a small, quiet town on the Riviera Maya with the second largest reef in the world just offshore, and it’s still close to the Cancun International Airport. Depending on where you’re staying, the town center can be walkable too.
How far is Puerto Morelos from the Cancun International Airport? Roughly 20 to 30 minutes by car.
Is snorkeling in Puerto Morelos good for kids? It can be, but only if your kid is a solid, confident swimmer. The reef sits inside a protected marine park, and while conditions can be calm, there’s still a real swimming distance and rolling waves to deal with. Guides bring a tube to pull tired kids along, but I wouldn’t recommend it for younger or less confident swimmers.
Do you need a rental car to enjoy Puerto Morelos? Not for a resort-based trip like this one. From Dreams Jade Resort, the town of Puerto Morelos is walkable, and the resort can arrange transportation for tours like snorkeling.
Final Thought
Two travel days, four resort days, one snorkeling tour, and a beach walk every single day. That was the whole plan, and it worked. If you’re on the fence about whether a short trip is worth it, this itinerary is proof that you don’t need a full week to actually recharge.
